Ringoism

The Japanese principle of Honne and Tatemae is a universal phenomenon of human society and
describes the contradiction between the inner
world and the external image of the individual. In an environment that is becoming increasingly polarized and egocentric, the Self disenfranchises itself through misunderstood empathy and willingness to compromise and carries the human object in front of it like a mask. Ringoism confronts the self with the image, takes us on wrong paths out of a dogged lust for life and shows the struggle from heteronomy back to pure being.

Duration: 30 minutes

Based on the piece ID from 2004 Ringoism was recreated in 2023 for the T*H AAR Festival at Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom. The result is a completely new piece that premiered on June 25, 2023.
In October 2023, the piece was shown again at the ButohFestival Butohresque Vol 4.
