Ken Mai Flashes To Ashes (23).jpg

Ken Mai (JP/FI)
                                                       Flesh to Ashes

This work focuses on the body and soul. It is based on the themes of life, death, love, embodying the dignity and profoundness of human beings.

Thoroughly questioning, experimenting and struggling with the body and spirit, the performer senses life and the concept of death, until the body eventually decays and is transformed into ashes by the flames, returning to the earth and water. Embodying this ritualistic act, the performer burns away the ego and desires, becoming ashes, and the remaining soul departs for the sacred beyond.
I believe that at the root of this process lies the energy, embrace and guidance of love, which is said to be the universal consciousness, and I am convinced that the momentary performance contains the secret of eternity.

Duration: 45 minutes

Direction, lighting, music selection, dance: Ken Mai

                                                                   HiHiMe

On the final journey, after a recurring cycle of decay and re-emergence, the souls that have been demonized as witches for thousands of years return to earth for the last time.

HiHime is the search for the ancestors, female forces that have been carried over generations and guaranteed their survival as the backbone of the clan.
