In Butoh, the dissolution of the ego leads to an infinite free self. In this infinity, everything is open and everything is possible, both temporally and spatially. Through the dissolution of the subjective ego and the resulting universality, this process is a journey through human evolution and involution embedded in the self. Dancing Butoh therefore means the realization of the universal self.[1]Thus there is no need to create something new when you are a Butoh-ka.

In this sense, ButohMayu should not be understood as a new form of Butoh. Rather, ButohMayu describes the individuality of DaniMayu within the universality.

Butterfly

Captured in its cocoon

Awakening

Time to hatch

To tear down the walls

And spread out the wings

Time to fly

To dance with the sun

And play with the wind

Time to soar

To touch the sky

And to enter a new world

Yet,

Winter arrived

Before spring blossomed

And Butterfly

Retreated into its shell

For another year

... bears in mind the inner contradictions of the body of every human being between light and darkness, ratio and emotions and life and death.

... is the transformation from one state into another.

... is the thing in-between where the body is not a fixed entity but constantly changing.

... follows the Instinct of life, is never a still-stand but a continuing movement.

... is the original will of human being to develop and to grow in order to become what we cannot see but feel; to become what we ARE.

... is Mayu – Cocoon – a state of metamorphosis. Inside exists a Being neither living nor dead, captured in its fragile and delicate yet strong and nutritious cover. Here it rests, receives new energy, grows, develops and transforms until it breaks out, peels off the strings, opens the layers step by step in order to become something new.

Currently DaniMayu is looking for new members who not only share the spirit of Butoh, but can feel it deeply. The members should be open to following the path of life of Butoh and dedicating their existence to the philosophy of Butoh.

2023 DaniMayu and 3 remaining members started to work on a new piece called HiHime. An excerpt could be seen at Butohresque - Vienna Butoh Festival Vol. 4.

Left with one faithful member (Runa Hatariy) the company was revived from October 2019 On the occasion of DaniMayu's 20th anniversary in 2020. Eventually, a group of six formed around DaniMayu and Runa Hatariy - Jule, Michaela Mab, Stephanie Tietz, Theresa Grießenberger. Due to pandemic they performed PanD'orA only 2021 at Butohresque - Vienna Butoh Festival Vol. 3.

From July 2008 until October 2019 the Company was left quiet.

DaniMayu continued working independently.

After a reorganization of the group the Company showed the piece Coin of Cabitoh at the Butoh-based DanceFestival 'Dance ga Mitai! 9' in Tokyo in July 2007. The new members were Caroline Heinecke and Anna Nowak.

The Debut of the Company was in October 2006 at the Neue Buehne Villach with Siddhartha. The piece was created by a co-operation between DaniMayu and Bruno Strobl (Composer).

MayuKan - DaniMayu ButohDanceCompany was founded in January 2006. The members of this very first moment were Ria Probst, Gerwich Rozmyslowski and Bernhard Weiss.
