DaniMayu made her debut in 2000 with the solo piece Jiyū [jap. Freedom] in Kochuten, the studio of Dairakudakan in Kichijōji I Tokyo.
Under the direction of then company member Ishikawa 'Tora' Masatora, she created a touching piece that sets the tone for her entire work. DaniMayu's pieces are based on very personal themes, which are then viewed in a larger context and transferred to the universal. This creates images that set something very personal in motion for each viewer and thus leave a deep impression on the inside of each spectator.
DaniMayu's very own choreographic style from the very beginning is particularly evident in group performances. Totally in the spirit of Butoh, her profound choreographies leave plenty of room for the unique moment of each performance as well as each individual dancer within the group.
